Going
on holiday should be a relaxing time which you use to
forget about work and day to day things, however preparing
to go on holiday can be fairly stressful so we have
put together some handy hints and tips.
In
advance...
Why
start your holiday worrying about how to get to the
airport, where to park and what to do at the airport
when you have checked in?
If
you are one of the 45% of people who drive to the airport,
why not pre-book a parking space at one of the many
airport carparks. It is much cheaper to pre-book rather
than turn up and pay at the airside car parks. All off
site carparks run regular shuttle services to the airport.
Once
you have checked in what do you do? Why not relax in
the peace and quiet of an airport lounge. Airport lounges
are available at most of the larger airports and they
give you complimentary drinks, snacks, newspapers and
a comfortable and quiet place to relax. All from as
little as £13.50 per person.

Holiday
preparation
1.
Before you travel, leave details of your holiday, including
photocopies of your passport and flight tickets, contact
numbers and travel insurance details, with a friend
or family member. Leave spare keys with someone you
trust
2. Use a timer so lights come on at night
3. Pack your travel insurance policy booklet, schedule
and information cards. If you’re taking your mobile
phone, programme in your travel insurance emergency
numbers
4. Cancel milk and paper deliveries
5. Clear your fridge and kitchen of anything that might
go off. Put out the bins
Ask someone to water plants and care for your pets
6. Ensure all the house and shed windows and doors are
locked
7. Unplug electrical appliances (except fridges and
freezers)
8. Check your home insurance is in order - some home
insurance policies have exlcusions if your house is
left unoccupied for more than 30 days
9. Prepare a first aid kit to take with you - include
diarrhoea and rehydration sachets
10. Leave the heating and hot water on a low setting
if you are going away during winter months

going away for a long time
Packing
preparation
1.
Start thinking about what you're going to pack several
weeks ahead of your trip, make a list.
2. Don't take what you don't have to, check in the brochures
or ring the hotel to see what they provide, there are
often towels, toiletries and bedding already provided.
3. Its worth checking to see what temperatures are going
to be like during the time you're away so you can pack
the right clothes
4. If you are planning to do different activities make
sure you pack clothes for what you are planning.
5. Get all your clothes you are planning to take out
the week before, then be ruthless with what you actually
need to take, people invariably take far too many clothes
and shoes so be realistic.
6. Iron all your clothes before you pack as it will
help you fold them and will mean they take up less space
in your cases
Things
you should remember to pack
1.
Mobile phone charger and country adapter plug
2. Padlock and keys to lock your luggage
3.
Eye mask and ear plugs if you want to sleep on the plane
4.
Put your house keys somewhere safe - so you can find
them on your return
5.
Camera, spare film and batteries
6.
Sun cream and lip protector
7.
Sunglasses and sun hat
Finally,
remember to get travel
