Something
to bear in mind when buying travel insurance
A
bargain break shouldn’t leave travellers short-changed
when it comes to buying travel insurance. Research shows
that holiday-makers are now going on more short-breaks
abroad, but while they might be making the most of cheap
flights, they could actually be wasting the money they
have saved by purchasing unsuitable travel insurance
cover.
Short
breaks are becoming increasingly popular year-round
- the number of mini breaks taken by people in the UK
is nearly double that of longer holidays. However, many
travel agents and insurance companies still sell cover
in blocks of days meaning that holiday-makers frequently
buy more cover than they actually need. Many travel
agents for example, only sell cover in two bandings
of 1-9 days and 10+ days forcing people who are taking
short breaks to buy surplus cover.
Holiday-makers
should check they are only buying travel insurance cover
for the number of days they need and they aren’t
buying a ‘block’ policy without realising.
As our research shows most travel agents’ insurance
policies are best suited to those embarking on a week-long
holiday rather than those going away for just a couple
of days.
